July 10th to 12th – 2024
Emergency Medicine Symposium 2024
Emergency Medicine Symposium 2024 was held on the beautiful island of Koh Samui – Thailand.
We began the week with the EM Symposium Faculty High Tea, where our team of fantastic speakers could connect in person, and we could brief them about all the technical aspects of delivering our fast-paced three-day conference. We were thrilled to introduce our charity partner, Palmera Project, and share the impact of the EM symposium’s donation on rural underprivileged communities.
The 2024 Emergency Medicine Symposium was overjoyed to donate AUD$102,000 to Palmera Project – Our Charity Partner.
The following three days were packed with high-impact, clinically relevant education led by frontline Emergency Physicians. We were thrilled to see the incredible attendance and engagement with the content from start to finish. It was evident senior ED doctors crave high-level practical clinical content they can implement in their practice next week when they are on the floor. We are incredibly indebted to our engaging speakers for volunteering to deliver academic content that stretched from Cardiac emergencies, ECGs, wound management, paediatrics, domestic violence, palliation and Simulation, to name a few.
We also took time to Heal the Healer too…
“Every job looks easy… until you are the one doing it.” Jeff Immelt
We recognise that working on the front line in Emergency Medicine is clinically and intellectually challenging, but it is also emotionally and psychologically complicated. We had an unforgettable session on Wellness and Avoiding Burnout, during which we shared stories and strategies for ourselves and the juniors we support in our departments.
In that vein, we enjoyed some downtime together and had the opportunity to make friends and connections with doctors from Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa beachside at our two social events. Due to various work commitments, it was also a chance to catch up with friends and colleagues we hadn’t seen in years. Sharing stories and having laughs together is very special. It was so lovely to see everyone wearing their beautiful smiles.
I had a great time catching up with old colleagues and making new friends, coupled with excellent education sessions in a relaxed and informal setting.
The conference ticks all the boxes! We are lucky to have dedicated convenors and all the other faculty members working hard to make it happen, and your efforts are greatly appreciated. Awesome!!!
